Why do some porcelain tiles need sealing?

why u should seal porcelain

Why do some porcelain tiles need sealing?

Polished porcelain is often porous!

This is because the polishing process to make them shiny widens the microscopic pores on the surface, and if the raw materials are less densely pressed, or fired poorly, or are lower grade then the surface of the tile becomes porous when polished and if it is porous that means tiles are likely to stain and mark – so if they need sealing it’s generally a sign that the supplier is a low-cost, low technology producer.

Sure they will do the job they are designed for of being a floor tile, but do you really want to have to worry about marking and staining, after all, isn’t one of the reasons you are considering porcelain because real stone needs maintenance and porcelain doesn’t?
