“I am tiling a small room so I will need to use small tiles”
Oops! Wrong – this misconception occurs very often. The size of our room doesn’t always dictate the tile size.
- Larger tiles create a feeling of space
- Large tiles mean fewer grout joints and in your mind’s eye, this pushes the opposing walls, the floor and the ceiling away from each other
- Practical tip – Large tiles in a shower area mean it will be easier to clean because there are fewer grout joints to get dirty
Don’t limit your choice of product by believing that you have to have smaller tiles and don’t believe that you will waste your money on buying too many tiles and all that extra cutting. Yes, there will be a bit more waste, but it’s only likely to be £12.50 with the bigger tiles rather than £10.00 with the smaller ones.
UK bathrooms are not huge, so bigger tiles make these rooms feel larger and more abundant. Taking a bath can be viewed as a leisure activity so we should all be spoiling ourselves in our important leisure time.
Dare to be a bit different and use big SQUARE tiles on the walls instead of OBLONGS – just because we are used to seeing oblongs doesn’t mean that squares won’t look funky and modern.
Large floor areas in kitchens/dining rooms or conservatories are particularly suitable for bigger tile formats, such as 600×600, 800×800, 600×120, and 120 by 120, which are all available nowadays for a real WOW factor.
