It’s not wood – it’s better!

How to Lay Wood Effect Tiles

The beauty of wood effect tiles

Wood effect porcelain and ceramic tiles have been available for some time, however, new production technologies mean that incredible realism can be achieved, so good in fact that you can’t tell the difference by just looking

Some versions unashamedly replicate wood, aged wood with knots and all, modern wood, painted wood, parquet, and cross-cut wood, look at the ceramic plank below – can you tell?

Wood effect tile ranges now have accredited anti-slip values, even for the smoother surface, most also have dedicated anti-slip versions which can take the form of a grooved decking look or a crosscut effect, this opens up the possibility of using the wood effects in external and internal wet floor areas, why not consider a wood effect floor tile for a swimming pool surround, or bathroom tile or bring the outside in by continuing a wood effect tile from the kitchen to an external deck area.

You may be considering using natural or engineered wood or even a laminate, if so talk to us about a wood effect tile, especially for floors that are moisture sensitive  – a leaking radiator or leaking water/coffee machine can have a drastic effect on natural wood floors, often resulting in disruption to businesses and leading to expensive and inconvenient repairs/replacements.

Whilst wood effect tiles have clear benefits over actual wood it is important to remember that they are NOT wood, they need a minimum joint of 3mm, they do need grouting and movement joints still need to be considered in larger areas, however, there has been a major shift towards wood effect tiles used commercially due to their high wear and ease of cleaning characteristics.
