A few golden rules – not in any specific order
- mats for big spaces / loose cables for small awkward shaped rooms
- make sure it will fit in as you can’t cut it down, and only buy enough to cover between 80%- 85% of the floor space. For example in a 24 sqm room you can definitely fit 19 sqm or 20 sqm of heating mats
- you only really need a 200 watt system if there’s no other heating in the room, or it’s a conservatory
- Insulate, insulate INSULATE ! – here’s why …
- ensure the installer tests the continuity with a Multi-meter. Before & During & After installation. With a high quality mat/cable, there really isn’t very much that can ‘go wrong’ with it once fitted. It’s during installation when something can happen, so thats the reason for the 3 tests
- Don’t turn it on for at least 14 days. This allows the tile adhesive to cure naturally. If you force it then it may shrink, crack, and fail.
- Make sure you familiarise yourself with the programming of the thermostat by doing the programming process several times over, changing it each time. It’s not rocket science! but do it just once and you’ll forget
