swimming pools for homes

Adam Collins

Adam came to Tiles and Mosaics by chance, as he was driving past he saw the word “mosaics” on our external façade and so initially popped in to discuss what was available for the tank of the indoor pool under construction at his home in Hertfordshire.

Something “a bit special please, rather than plain blue” and it quickly became apparent that the entire project was a substantial one and that Adam’s personal tastes needed to be expressed in bold dramatic contrasts of contemporary colour and textures.

The pool was to be housed in a brand new building so internal walls, the pool surround and the changing rooms all required inspiration in ceramics. With a young family, the need for cleanliness and safety was important.

Adam’s choice for the pool tank came quickly with a new range of iridescent glass mosaics combining strong cobalt and turquoise hues with a metallic lustre.

Bios antibacterial tiles from Casalgrande Padana have elements harmless to humans incorporated within the body of the tile during production which last forever and provide 99.9% guaranteed protection against the 4 main bacterial strains so provided a perfect way to protect Adam’s friends and family.

The hammered surface of the wall tiles was incorporated in all the floor areas. This surface has a certified anti-slip characteristic for bare feet!

As well as a built-in TV the main wall tiles required a striking decorative feature and so dark bold chocolate-brown Emperador with a hammered surface texture was proposed together with a classical botticino ivory for the decorative features.

The decorative elements included a 5 sqm area of this unique mosaic which incorporates 3 alternating textures of the glossy, mat and hammered 30 cm strips.

Three continuous horizontal bands of a single matching 1cmx 30cm strip ran in between each of 3 chocolate tiles 60×120 which were laid in a landscape style.

Smaller areas of the same decoration were used in the changing area together with the 30×60 format wall tile.

Bringing all these ideas to life required a level of expertise and attention to detail that is uncommon and so T&M enlisted the fixing skills of a good friend and long-standing customer Diamond Ceramics.

Mark Chang and his team were appointed by Adam on our recommendation and completed a fabulous job on time and within budget.

As you can imagine the Collins family are keeping fit, splashing around and enjoying good times with their friends in the beautifully finished pool shown below.
