You might not change your interiors as often as you update your wardrobe but interiors trends are still very much a ‘thing’. So, as 2023 draws to a close, we visited one of the world’s biggest tile shows – Cersaie in Bologna, Italy – to see what 2024 will have to offer in terms of tiles!
Terracotta – Following last year’s Terracotta re-emergence 2024 will see even more warm earthy tones, available in 60x240mm metro shape and also 200x200mm, plus a wide selection of 3D and patterned options. You’ll even be able to snatch them in large 1000x1000mm floor tiles too.
3D glazing – lots of the main tile producers are introducing the latest glaze technology, which uses reactive and 3D glaze printing to highlight details on the surface of tiles.
Marazzi’s collection is called “Touch-Technology” and includes leaf pattern feature tiles, brought to life with realistic stems and fronds that protrude slightly. And the protrusions are iridescent, to highlight visibility.
Casalgrande Padana’s introduced it’s “Vein-Touch” collection, using the same technology to stunning effect on a new honed-surface marble series, highlighting coloured veining as indented striations.
Kit-Kat – no we’re not encouraging you to put chocolate wafers on your walls – but one big trend will be pre-grooved three-dimensional ‘kit-kat’ style wall tiles. Available in a myriad of colours, textures and effects, including a realistic Bamboo by Mainzu and a Long-Stick option by Amadis.
Ombré – We’re not sure where you would use this trend – or who exactly it will appeal to – but one manufacturer, Wow, showcased the unusual use of gently coloured wall tiles that vertically colour-fade from the floor upwards to a very pale middle and then regenerate back to colour at ceiling height.
Travertine – It’s been a minute (well about 15 years actually) since travertine was on trend in the UK but if Cersaie is anything to go by you won’t be able to move for it in 2024! And it is all very beige!
Classic dark beige, quiet light beige, vein-cut Travertine, cross-cut Travertine, chipped-edge Travertine, polished Travertine, honed Travertine, anti-slip Travertine, mixed-size Travertine opuses, three-dimensional Travertine feature wall tiles… this timeless stone effect is back with a bang and will look great in larger sized tiles.
Marble – We find it hard to believe there are still types of marble being discovered, however the worldwide search appears never-ending with still more variants presented in tile form this year.
Porcelain furniture and surfaces – not tiles as such but kitchen worktops or dining table surfaces, fabricated furniture such as counter-top wash basins and shower bases, all made from 6mm slabs of porcelain. Available in a veritable cornucopia of colours and effects (with hefty price tags!) they would definitely be a stand out addition to a luxury bathroom project!
