6 Laying Patterns Using Metro Tiles

6 Laying Patterns Using Metro Tiles

Does your bathroom or kitchen need a makeover? Tile choices can be tough, from the different shapes, and sizes to laying styles, the options are endless.

In today’s blog, we look at Metro tiles and just why they are still one of the most sought after tiles on the market. One of the reasons for this is that Metro tiles are extremely versatile and can be used in both contemporary and traditional settings, giving them wide appeal.

If you are considering metro tiles for your home but are not sure how to lay them out then keep reading, we explain all.

Brick Bond Metro Tiles

The brick bond style is a classic metro tile pattern in which the grout is joined up on alternate rows (like in bricklaying, hence the name). The classic brick bond layout is the most popular arrangement when it comes to metro tiles and gives a traditional brick wall look to your space.

Straight Metro Tiles

Similar to brick bond tiling, straight tiling is where all the grout is lined up. This laying pattern brings uniformity to your tiling and the clean lines give the perception of a bigger space. Stacking your metro tiles in a straight layout like this will allow for a contemporary feel that will make a statement.

Vertical Metro Tiles

Whilst tiling metro tiles horizontally is more traditional if you are looking for something slightly different why not turn those tiles 90 degrees for a more contemporary design. This laying pattern is particularly popular inside shower cubicles and in small bathrooms, as the vertical pattern draws the eyeliner upwards creating the illusion of more space. If you want to take it a step further then why not stagger the joints to give your room a geometric funky vibe.

Herringbone Metro Tiles

The herringbone pattern is a popular laying pattern when it comes to metro tiles. This layout will create intrigue and interest in your room. Why not use a mix of different coloured metro tiles in a herringbone layout for a stunning arrangement. Or use white metro tiles in a herringbone pattern with a large format floor tile to create a stunning bathroom design. Check out our Amadis Metro Tile range, long sleek oblong tiles which are just perfect for creating this look or our porcelain Herringbone Wood tiles that allow you to create the popular wood floor look without the maintenance of real wood.

Diagonal Metro Tiles

If a classic laying pattern isn’t for you why not opt for a diagonal pattern. Turn the tiles 45 degrees and create an eye-catching design that will add depth and personality to your space. Bear in mind that this pattern will require plenty of measuring and maybe even some cutting to ensure the tiles lie flat on the surface. If you need help or advice on laying your tiles contact a professional tiler.

Chevron Metro Tiles

Similar to the herringbone style the chevron pattern perfectly complements metro tiles. The chevron pattern is perfect for bathroom walls, kitchen splashbacks or fireplaces and will add character to your home.
